Founded locally by partners James Dowton and Tasmyne Spurway, Adaptive Physiotherapy and Performance provides Physiotherapy services to support infants, adolescents and adults in Port Macquarie-Hastings, Wauchope, Taree, Forster, and Kempsey.

At Adaptive Physiotherapy and Performance we provide personalised assessment, early intervention, rehabilitation, NDIS reporting, assistive technology applications, injury assessment and sport specific programs for those with and without disability.

Tasmyne and James met at the University of Newcastle, they quickly realised their shared passion for helping those around them and providing a meaningful positive impact on the community through providing high quality, accessible, evidence based therapy and programs. Having both grown up and worked in rural Australia, their experiences lead them to wanting to bring high quality services to all, regardless of location.

Tasmyne and James bring a positive approach to treatment and innovative therapy, providing a hands on enjoyable Physiotherapy services that is tailored to individuals goals and abilities to assist anyone to live their best life. Quality therapy should be accessible to all, that is why at Adaptive Physiotherapy and Performance we offer mobile services, home visits, hydrotherapy, community sessions, gym based and in clinic services on weekdays and weekends to suit your needs

At Adaptive Physiotherapy and Performance, we care about each and every patient, assisting you to achieve an improvement in quality of life and empowering anyone to be in control of their life and health. We actively involve you in the decision making process and look forward to supporting you on your journey to leading the life you want to lead.

When Tasmyne and James aren’t in the clinic, pool or at homevisits they enjoy keeping active and you may them at the gym, surfing or taking their good boy Hervey to the beach. Although you may not get to see Hervey hanging out at the clinic, rest assured that you will see copious photo’s of him on a regular basis.


Tasmyne Spurway

PHYSIOTHERAPIST, Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours). University of Newcastle

Owner and Co-Founder of Adaptive Physiotherapy and Performance Tasmyne was born and grew up in Port Macquarie, she has a passion for helping others and having a positive impact on those around her. Tasmyne is excited to be back in her hometown to provide the highest level of care for her patients. Tasmyne enjoy’s treating acute and chronic injuries, women’s health, and working with both adults and children living with disability.

James Dowton

Senior Paediatric PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Masters of Advanced Paediatric Physiotherapy Practice (MAPaedPhysPrac). Monash University

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours). University of Newcastle

Owner and Co-Founder of Adaptive Physiotherapy and Performance James is passionate about providing support for parents and children to be able to play and move better and know that disability should not be a barrier to participation.

As well as helping children, James enjoys working with adults living with pain, disability or wanting to improve their sporting performance. James provides one on one and small group Adaptive and Para-Sport Coaching and can support your participation at any age or ability level.

Shane Butler

Physiotherapist, Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.PHTY)

Shane graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Charles Sturt in Port Macquarie. Shane grew up in Jervis Bay, South Coast NSW and joined the Royal Australian Navy as a Marine Technician for 6.5 years.

Outside of work Shane has a sporting background as a cyclist and enjoys running and soccer.

Shane enjoys treating a range of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries for adults and children. Shane has a special interest in treating knee and ankle injuries and developing strength-based rehabilitation exercise programs. Shane delivers personalised care that prioritises the needs and goals of his patients.

Shane has a warm and caring nature, he is actively involved in delivering Physiotherapy in a range of settings to patients seen under NDIS living with disability.

Shane works closely along side our Paediatric Physiotherapist James and has learnt how to effectively work with children with disability, with ASD and ADHD.

Shane enjoys providing education on injury prevention techniques, ergonomic assessments, and exercise programs and holds his Workcover and Dry Needling certification and is registered Physiotherapist with the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

Kate Kingston

Paediatric Physiotherapist, Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) | University of Newcastle

Kate has a wealth of knowledge and experience working with children and the NDIS, she is passionate about providing every child with the opportunity to move and thrive – while having fun along the way.

Kate is also a qualified yoga teacher and enjoys teaching classes to nurture and nourish.

Special interests in Paediatrics, clubfoot, neurological rehabilitation and aquatic therapy.

Clinical skills:

• Early development clinic: MDT service for high risk/premature infants 0-2 years

• Standardised infant assessment: HINE, ASQ-3 and AIMS

• Assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal presentations: scoliosis, postural foot deformities, plagiocephaly, torticollis and brachial plexus birth palsy

• Assessment and prescription of exercise programs for chronic conditions such as JIA and EDS

• Cystic fibrosis clinic: spirometry assessment, airway clearance, inhalation therapy and exercise therapy
